Add all the ingredients to a cocktail pitcher, including the lemon peel. Add 2 handfuls of ice. Stir vigorously (40 stirs should do it). Strain into an ICED cocktail glass and serve immediately, with NO garnish. The lemon peel will have added its oils to the martini during stirring. Pour the dark rum into a wine goblet and stir in the sugar until it dissolves. Add bitters and lemon juice, and a few ice cubes. Fill the glass with 7-up and stir well.
